Birth Portfolio

The moment a baby is brought into this world is one of the most empowering, sacred and beautiful experiences in a women’s life.

In 2013 I delivered my first born at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, TN with the Nurse Midwives. It was a raw, exhausting, deeply moving and joyous experience. When my son came after 2.5 hours of pushing I have a “flash bulb” memory of his squishy newborn face followed by me noticing that he was a boy and promptly shouting at the top of my lungs “It’s a boy!” My husband and I laughed and laughed with delight at the arrival of our new son Felix.

Before I was in the deep throes of labor I mentioned to my doula it would be great if she could snap a few pictures with my camera during the big moment. She had no camera experience and the photos are blurry and grainy, but when I revisited those pictures a few months later all I could do was weep. Me clutching a tiny newborn to my bare chest, red-faced and laughing. My husband’s head buried in my shoulder with his hand grasping mine. I knew these photos would be cherished for a lifetime. I began to imagine how much more wonderful these photos could have been if someone who was a professional was behind the lens.

It was in that moment that I decided to be a birth photographer. I already had a passion for all things pregnancy and birth, plus was just starting to experiment with my “big girl” camera so the marrying of these two passions just made sense.

It would be my honor to come along side you to capture these priceless memories for your family to hold onto for years to come. Contact me today for a free consultation to get to know each other and see how I can best document your labor of love.
